Overview
Bob Sencer is the founder of Sencer Legal, a practice he started in 2016 after nearly three decades as an associate at prestigious law firms and General Counsel for two highly successful multi-national companies. With this extensive and diverse experience, Bob is able to provide his clients robust and insightful representation across a broad range of matters and industries, including commercial agreements and transactions; business entity formation, governance, acquisition and dissolution; advertising and marketing; e-commerce; intellectual property licensing; design and implementation of brand management and anti-counterfeiting programs; employment; real estate; and insurance. As a result of his many years representing corporate boards, as well as serving as Corporate Secretary and Director for a number of domestic and foreign companies, Bob is also able to provide his clients guidance on general corporate matters, including the legal duties of corporate officers and directors, and compliance with laws governing the organization and maintenance of business entities.
Legal Experience
In his current role as owner of Sencer Legal, Bob utilizes the comprehensive experience he gained as a law firm and in-house attorney in his representation of entrepreneurs, executives and company boards in all areas of business law. Prior to forming Sencer Legal, Bob served as the top legal executive for Thane Direct, a global multi-channel distributor of innovative fitness, health & beauty and household products, and Sunrider International, a leader in the manufacture and distribution of nutritional products, personal care products and cosmetics in over 40 countries. Bob reported directly to Chief Executive Officers of these companies and interacted closely with executives at all levels, including managers of corporate subsidiaries on five continents.
Before moving in-house, Bob represented Fortune 50 clients like General Motors, Toyota, Boeing and Honda at highly regarded law firms, including Bryan Cave, a “Top 100” international firm with 900 lawyers, and Bowman & Brooke, a nationally recognized leader in product liability defense litigation. As a law firm associate, Bob represented clients in all aspects of complex business litigation, including investor fraud, commercial disputes and catastrophic personal injury cases. This extensive litigation experience has proved invaluable to Bob’s formation as a business lawyer, enabling him to understand the importance of attention to detail in negotiating and drafting agreements with a focus on avoiding future misunderstandings and disputes between the parties.
Education
Bob completed his undergraduate studies in Sociology at UC Berkeley, where he graduated with High Honors. He obtained his law degree from the University of Southern California Gould School of Law (a US News & World Report “Top 20” law school), where he was invited to participate in the school’s Moot Court Honors Program. Bob completed his legal studies by earning a Master’s Degree (LL.M) in International Business Law from the prestigious London School of Economics & Political Science, consistently ranked as one of the top law schools in the world.
Bar Admission
Bob is admitted to the State Bar of California, and licensed to appear before the Ninth Circuit and Central District of California, and all of the state courts in California.
